PETITION TO OPPOSE THE NORTH CUMBERLAND CONSERVATION PLAN
« on: April 11, 2007, 06:21:39 AM »
I THE UNDERSIGNED FEEL THE MONEY FOR THIS PROJECT WOULD BE MORE BENEFICIAL IF USED ON THE PEOPLE OF TENNESSEE. WE URGE THE STATE OF TENNESSEE TO USE THIS MONEY FOR HEALTH CARE, EDUCATION, AND CRIME PREVENTION.

There is no evidence that the purchase of this property would improve the managment of the land.

I also oppose this.

I have spent a couple hours the last two days contacting our representatives. Along with suggesting that the money be spent elsewhere, I have mentioned that the people who use this now put more into the local economy and pay more in taxes  than the hikers and such that will be the target users in the future.

I speak from experience since I married a woman who is an avid backpacker. Most everything she uses was bought over the internet. I realize that offroaders and hunters buy online also, but the majority buy at a local shop.

As a business owner the state gets plenty of taxes paid whether or not the employees or myself get paid. The tax rates go up every year because it is "needed" yet we have the money for this? Yet people are routinely turned away from state funded medical plans and educational systems hold steady or go backwards. I am all about land restoration and conservation. I hate to see urban sprawl but lets do what makes sense. I oppose this action strongly. Concentrate on areas that do not have a land management plan in place. Brimstone is doing fine with its current plan of attack. Keep up the good work and Bredesen go find some people trying to help themselves who are struggling to get by just to feed their families. How about a rebate on fuel taxes?

The state says: we care about our ground, so lets spend $$$$$$$

Then they say "as for our people.............well...........uh.......yea......."

I wonder how far the state would go if it depended on the ground to build businesses, homes, or even a tax base. Will someone remind me how much taxes a tree pays!
