General / July 4th ride report
« on: July 04, 2011, 05:40:51 PM »
There was no better way to spend our 4th of July weekend than riding some awesome trails at Brimstone.

Flip-Flop's (and her friend Payden) and my weekend started a little earlier than JB800's. I drove down Thursday morning (it is great being a teacher and having the summer off) and JB followed Friday, when he got off work.

I planned on taking some pictures of Flip-Flop for an upcoming birthday (Sweet 16) picture DVD I plan on putting together and boy did we get some awesome shots! We learned of a beautiful waterfall and went to investigate and deemed it as a worthy background.  Thanks to Sir-C-gar for taking us to the beautiful spot. The pics turned out awesome.

Friday morning rolled around and I started waking up both girls about 8 that morning for more picture taking while we waited for JB to arrive. I knew how long it would take those two to wake up and get ready, but for Pete’s sake, they took longer than I thought. We finally got both RZRs moving about 11:30 and I had every intention of investigating some of the new trails that have yet to be numbered. I had a good idea of where they were located, but when I informed Flip-Flop we might hit some rough spots to get there I think I lost her.

We ran out trail 5 so I could show Flip-Flop's friend Payden, the rock face I love to crawl up, but knew I couldn't do it that day with them. Flip-Flop is a good driver, but some things still scare her. We came back to trail 3 and jumped off on 49 looking for a new tail that cuts off near 49A. I never seen the orange maker that was supposed to be there, but I did see a path that was just about straight across the trail from 49A. I told Flip-Flop to let me see where it might lead and I would holler at her on the radio if I thought it would be ok.

Well it looked like a nice pretty little trail as we went in and turned kinda nasty according to Flip-Flop as we came closer to the other end. Anyone that knows me knows I love the red trails and this one definitely turned red on the other end. I was grinning and loving every minute of this little loop and we made our way back out on 49, but Flip-Flop was telling me on the radio she was done with this trail and I could forget about pictures, she was ready to go back to the cabin.  It was pretty rough and probably more than she should have driven on, but with my coaching she made it just fine except for the little sapling that smacked her on the shoulder and she's still whining about it.

She also got something in her eye, I think it was a gnat; those suckers were thick and everywhere! At this point she was determined to go back to the cabin. I told her if I knew she was going to complain we could have stayed home or go back there and her attitude changed some. She agreed to ride some more trails as long as I stayed on green of blue ones, gosh that was hard for me to do, but I did it. Well according to all the signs and the trail map/bandanna I was using that they was all blue and green. We shot onto 95 and I was promptly radioed and ask what color was the trail. "It's blue," I said and away we went. Now the last time I was on 95 was back in the spring of last year when Chief and myself was scouting for places to turkey hunt.

For the most part it was the same, but a few places could be classified as red and let me tell you my radio was squawking with the sound of Flip-Flop's voice, "Momma, you said this was a blue trail, this don't look blue to me. I told you I didn't want to go on any red trails."  I led the way over all the rough places and would turn and coach her through and she done an awesome job even though she was shaking the whole time. We came out on the black-top off of 95 (where all the semi-trailers are) turned left in the hunt of trail 8, which made Flip-Flop happy because it was green. We found the sign telling us where trail 8 (Slick Rock trail) was and we turned. I can't remember ever being by there, but JB said I had.

I seen a little trail that shot off through the woods by the Slick Rock graveyard and we took it. I told both girls that I wasn't sure I had ever been on this trail, but it had to come out somewhere and I kept driving. Sure enough it meet up with a gravel road, which by turning my map around I was hoping it was trail 8. When we got to the gravel road I turned to consult with my riding partners and a little red sign caught my attention. It read, "No motor vehicles beyond this point." Oops, if this sign had been on the other end I would have avoided this trail. It was full of mud holes and limbs that was low enough to smack you a good 'en across the face, but since we had already made the trip unknowing we hung left on the gravel road (which indeed was 8) and meet back up with trail one where we saw our first riders of the day, who I think was lost, but they went down 8.

We hauled hide down 1 and hopped onto 3 and make a quick trip back to the cabin. Needless to say, I got no trail pics for my DVD! Flip-Flop was not happy with me; she said I just wanted to ride the extreme stuff. Maybe so...hehe.  It was getting on late evening by the time we got back to the cabin and I promised JB I would be there when he rolled in.  The girls forgave me after they got back to the cabin and took showers. They even let me get some shots of them in the amazing cabin we stayed in.

If you have not stayed in one of the cabins, it's a must do. They are awesome.  Dark was getting closer by the time JB made it and supper was ready. By my standards Friday, was a good day, even if I had two whiny teenagers (one of whom has never ridden on a trail much let alone an all-day ride) with me.

Saturday morning dawned and I was ready to ride. Our group (Renee, Ashleigh, Denny, Todd, Mindy and their girls, Ronnie, Denise and their boys, Mark, Stakk, Chop and the rest wanted to just ride. Some of our crew stayed back at the camp while the rest did ride.  We was guided by Dudley and he took us on some of the old trails that are TWRA land now (yes we had the proper permits to ride). 21, 24, 32, 28, 14, and I may have missed one and I know they wasn't in that order, but it was beautiful trails and trails that deserve a re-ride. It was a great day and all had a wonderful relaxing time. I didn't get to drive any; well there were a few places that Flip-Flop ask me to drive my RZR through. I rode beside JB all day and it was great, I got to look at all the amazing sights by being the passenger. Even Flip-Flop who got pitched in the creek by Mark; he was paying her back for getting him muddy at White Knuckle and her friend Payden even got a creek bath because she is associated with Flip-Flop, had a great time.

Sunday rolled around and most of our group had planned to leave for the journey home, but as it turned out all stayed until Monday. Sunday was just a day to be lazy and the kids played in the river while the adults thought we should all head to Bob's Rock, but that got taken over by the mention of kayaking.  JB and Payden headed downriver in a canoe, Denny, Renee, and Ashleigh was in a 3-man kayak, Flip-Flop, Jake, Mark and I all manned a kayak each and had a ball on the water. The ride on the river was awesome and so much fun! Lots laughing and water splashing was taking place and getting stuck on the shoals was fun. It was great and my family, JB800, Flip-Flop and even Payden, can't wait to do it again! Thanks to everyone (Mark, Karla, Stakk and the rest of my riding family, you know who you are.) for helping us make wonderful memories this weekend
