I will be coming up June 20th for 5 days
« on: March 22, 2008, 06:48:30 PM »
We are bringing sport and ute quads. How much riding is there for sport quads? I dont mind some rocks but nothing crazy. I am a very skilled and experienced rider that has ridden hatfeild mccoys, harlan county, pickett state park and more on a sport quad. I have even ridden some of their red and black trails on the sport quad until it got to rocky. I like to ride as fast as the trail will allow keeping in mind that i have an 8yr old at home that depends on me ;). I like tight, 55"wide, trails that twist and turn with big hill climbs.
Any particular trail numbers i should look for?

When on the ute I will have my wife as a passenger so i will be looking for beautiful views such as water falls, caves, bluffs and so on.
Any particular trails for this ride?

Any do's or dont's that we should know?

U will enjoy some of the red trails close to Trail 1 on your sport quad... not a whole lot of rocks yet on the trails and they are still new and tight. Some of those trails are even possible to do with a rhino...some friends of mine took there on those trails and just had to navigate a little easy at times. Its a lot of pretty views inside the woods there... not a real specific place to mention right off hand.

An easy trip to Monster pond would be nice for the wife. It would be on Trail 10... u could go up and take the Trails 43 and 44 around and then back down to T10 and as u come down a rutted area or where the water has drained down part of the trail, there is a wide open area and a mudhole on the right and a trail going back a little bit... monster pond is there... its just a big pond beside the mtn and had a big rock wall behind it... depending on how much rain its lower at times. If u come back out of there u just take a right and continue on T10.
It will come out on a paved road there and if thats something u think u will want to ride will need to give u more info on how to get back over to the Trail1 and T8 area. Seems like there arent any signs on the paved road side. up the gravel/roads a bit the signs start.

Bull Creek area is also pretty with some creeks and streams... but I believe thats on the other land, TWRA, so no need to tell u about that unless u want ot get that permit.

Thanks Bamagirl. We hope to ride at least 50 miles per day so all the info is helpfull. Will it be hard or easy to get lost? We will have a GPS to store a way point for our starting point. We mainly want to see as much as possible with the least amount of danger on the trails.
On a Friday, Sat. & Sun. how many riders can we expect to see on the trails? We will wait to do the sport quads in the week so there will be less riders thus being less of a chance to run into anyone.

One thing I have noticed about Brimstone compared to other areas is u can ride all day and still not cover a whole lot of miles... the reason I say this is we used to leave out early and come home after dark and have a good 75 miles...the difference is a lot of times we were on gravel roads at times and racking the miles up but in less times... mileage means a lot but when u are on trails in the woods it seems to be less miles.

I think with experience all the trails could be ridden by a bunch of guys... u know willing ot watch out for each other and maybe a little spotting here and there just to be safe. I dont think any of it is extreme riding unless u throw some speed in there.

As far as how many folks u see on the trails.... we pass some here and there and the more u stay on the main trails like 3,1, etc u will pass more folks... I guarentee the further away from the parking lot u get the less u will see... just cause some folks wont venture far sometimes.

GPS and waypoints will be a good idea.... some on here had talked of having some or knowing about some...that gps thing is still over my head and Im trying to learn how to use it.
Maps seem to be really good and they even have a small one for the new trails they have cut recently... I think u will be good to go with the gps, map and a full tank of gas with a bunch of folks ready to ride. JMO!
Hope this helps.
