There isn't officially any type of GPS map yet; however, if you sweet talk the owner and he knows you have no plans on making any maps he might let you download some of the coordinates.  As far as the best GPS?  I have no idea.  I do know that both the owner and my husband have the GPS Rhino, it is green.  =)

Check out this link, they have partial GPS tracks. As anyone with GPS knows GPS tracks are no replacment for a MAP.  You can only see a very small portion on your GPS screen.  Purpose of GPS tracks are to make it eaiser to navigate and find the trails.  W/o them It can be hard soemtimes as stuff becomes milabeled and unlabeled and as new roads/trails cross exisiting trails and such.  I have bought 2 maps from the office.

I'd recommend a Garmin for someone new.  Very easy to use and learn.  60csx is a good chocie.  Here is a link for one for $257 after a $50 mail in rebate,

Rinos are good also as Brimstonebelle mentioned.  They have a walkie talkie built into them (good if your ridnig in groups).  Also you can ping and see the location of other rino users on your screen also.  (Good idea for big groups where you might get lost or seperated).

I use Garmin and a Lowrance Expedition C.  I use the Lowrance for Brimstone as it has ALOT bigger track storage (100 tracks at 10,000 points each).  But the software the comes with it is very limited.  Garmisn software rocks.  I use garmin software to work with the tracks, etc.  Definately dont start out on a Lowrance, you need the Garmin software anyway.. I'd recommend the 60csx,Rino (newer models), 76csx.

That still doesnt show any of the track data  from brimstone.  They didn't want to release the GPS track data because they were wanting to figure out a way to make $$ off it, now brimstone looses half its property.  When they could have released the GPS tracks to the public to help them navigate their way around brimstone all this time and make it ALOT easier.

It's not that we wanted to make money off of the GPS tracks.  There are many that worked VERY hard GPSing those trails to make this map, and they didn't want to just give the info out because then that might contradict the copyright on the map.  We couldn't release the tracts to anyone that we thought might put them online for people to download and copy.  Why would Brimstone spend all of that money buying maps to sell to people and then practically give the information (that many people worked very hard...months and months) away to someone to put on the internet for people to just download for free?  FYI...the Brimstone owners haven't made one penny off of this property, so they aren't in this to make money.  They are in this to keep the land open for people to ride.

I strongly disagree.  Maps and GPS data are two different things.  GPS data is no subsitute for a Map, and a Map is no substitue for GPS data.  You have to have BOTH.  Releasing the GPS data would not hurt map sales in one bit.  And that is the reason I was told it wasn't release, which you just clarified.  To sell maps.  Your logic is you need one or the other.  That is the incorrect logic.  You need both.  I think its very selfish to withhold this valuable information that would make alot of peoples rides alot easier.

So why don't you be very unselfish and ride the trails and get the gps data the way they did and post it .
