Nice pics Dale. Wish I could have made it as well, but I mothballed the Rhino until it cools off a little more and we get dust control. We went to the lake instead. Wink

The 2010 KOTM race was my first ATV race ever.

We started our weekend ride with many of the Brimstone favorites, 75Y and 87Y are trails that I remember well due to the massive adrenaline rush that accompanied each of these challenging routes. I rode with a group from Missouri that I showed around at Windrock 4 yrs ago and we have been riding together ever since. (We started our ride together this time with T5 right out of the parking lot and within 3 miles we were plugging a sidewall tear in a new set of GrimReapers.) (New guy on a Prowler, he did better as the day unfolded).

Since I was a little rusty on my Brimstone routes, I had to stop and read the map about 40 times during each days ride, but there was little complaining because even the blue trails could get exciting at times.

Mean while back at the KOTM race...
I was the only one to get out of bed Sunday at 7am to load all my gear onto my truck again since I had been riding over to the property from our cabin the first 2 days on one of their trailers.  This took longer than I expected and by the time I got to the Brimstone trailhead, I was already late for the race.  Shawn was wonderfully accommadating and we actually started out 5 minutes late.  I didn't have time to eat breakfast before the race and that turned out to be a big mistake.

"No food make fat man have no energy"

The course was everything that I had hoped for, challenging but doable. I never had the thot that I was going to win the race because I don't ride fast but I did want to ride hard for 2 hrs straight just to see if I could do it. Starting out with no breakfast, I was completely fatigued halfway thru the first lap. In fact if it wasn't for a nice lady at the top of the rock ledge hill climb that gave me a drink of water, I probably would of had to stop.

Somehow that gave me enough energy to start enjoying the course again and finish the first lap.  I saw 2 machines upside down on the first lap alone. I saw another one struggle with a steep downhill rut and end up blowing blue smoke for the next half a lap until he finally decided to call it a day.

This is when I decided to get an answer to my question as to why no one jumped the log pit when I watched the guys race on TV. Well let's just say that when you land clear out in the hay bales, it might not be the best thing for your lap times. (I hit one time so hard that my Rincon completely shut off. Now it started right back up again when I hit the starter but there for a minute I think both of us were wondering if we were able to continue.) Of course the Honda decided it wanted to ride more before I did, but 2 more laps into this race I noticed a hot light. I actually finished the race by shutting off the engine when I started down the long rocky down hill and started it again when I came to the long rocky hill climb.

I think I probably finished last on this my first time out but I definately finished!!! and I wouldn't trade the memories for the $1000. I'm convinced that I had the most fun of anybody out there.

Lord willing, you will see me out there in the next KOTM Brimstone Race, finishing with the biggest smile but still not in first place.

**Next year maybe they should consider a 50 and over class**

Thanks for the awesome post chat. We had a bottle of water for you at the flag stand the lap after you asked for one but you didn't ask for it the next time by.

The Thanks should go to all of you that put together such a great event!

Any idea how I can get a copy of some of the video taken that day?  I parked right beside the camera crew, I guess they don't interview last place...

Just heard back from Dirttrax.com and they said it would air November 22nd on the Outdoor Channel.

E-mails from viewers always make them feel better about sending their video crews out onsite to cover certain events rather than others.
